I wasn't happy hauling a small "billboard" on the back of my bike to show my license plate. I looked at all the typical laydown mounts and even the sideways mounting options and didn't like any of them.
I found a Hotop Designs mount marketed by Drag Specialties that I wanted to try. The mount is curved to match the fender. I was unable to find it in stock or find a dealer who was able to provide the radius of curvature. Checking with several dealers, none was willing to refund if, upon delivery, I realized it wasn't going to fit. No big deal and I won't go on a rant about it, but I won't be recommending a dealer here.
The Drag Specialties part number is 7807-0114
The mount works on stock Harley-Davidson fenders with the 3 holes for the factory mount. I had to do quite a bit of cutting on my plate to get it inside the mount, but it was well worth the effort.
Out of curiosity, I also test fitted on a 2006 Sportster fender. This mount would look fine on the narrower Sportster fender.

Just couldn't be any uglier. That red reflective strip doesn't really help the "look".

HORRIBLE pictures, I know. I will get the bike out in the sun and take some new pictures soon. This still gives a good idea of how good this new mount looks.
