Motor repair
Submitted By: GA Paramedic
Date Created: 06-23-2006
Description: The 1973 Mercury 115hp was not running when purchased and didn't even have a starter. The wiring on the inside was a mess including many ground wires that were melted, burned and just hanging around. The tilt/trim motor wasn't working and the wiring to the motor from the controls were fried.

Quite a beautiful motor for this boat.

This by itself was worth $1. a beautilful prop to be swining from this motor. Bad part is that it may be overpropped... espically for sking. Sad, I know.

A look on the inside.

Close up of distributor, idle stop, throttle stop and spark advance setting. Many ground wires have already been replaced and reattched to their respective locations. Also 3 carbs serving two cylinders each.

View of the used starter that I bought on ebay for $49 shipped. Stator wires, rectifier and other componets have been repaired and wired correctly.

This is a good view of the battery compartment and tilt/trim hydraulic pump. This was filled with wires and was a total mess. And the tilt/trim was extreemly low in fluid that caused many problems with raising the motor. Fluid replaced and works better than ever.
