Outboard Repower project: Repower with Johnson 90 hp on Bayliner Capri.
When I bought the Bayliner in 2007, I intended to replace the Force outboard ASAP. But the Hard Top project got underway, and I kept putting off a repower. Finally, I have found the time and finances to put a fresh motor on the Capri. The motor is a 2003 Johnson 90 hp with power tilt and trim. I ordered the motor from A1outboard.com outboard rebuilders in PA (aka Blackbird). They rebuild the power head, test and repair any problems with the gear case, and paint the motor and apply new decals so it looks like new. I was so pleased with a prior purchase from them, that I decided to order again.
Replacing the 1985 Force with a 2003 Johnson requires new wire harness, control cables, gauges and control box. In addition, the batteries were relocated from the transom to the cuddy storage compartments. So the project is more involved than just removing and ibolting on an outboard. There were also a few bumps along the way with the rebuild outboard that needed to be addressed. Always expect a few issues along the way, especially on such an involved project.
This is how I did it. Hope you enjoy reading the project.
