1979 Sabre Craft 24' I/O

Description: 1979 24' SABRE CRAFT - I/O - SERIAL NO. AMM25144M75F. (It is either a Command Bridge 2530 or Express 2520 - not sure which - no reference pictures to compare.)

I have recently purchased (cheap, "as is") a 24' 1979 Sabre Craft I/O as a project boat - a big challenge, even though I'm quite handy, since I've never done anything quite like this before. I'll be looking for lots of advice and suggestions.

The previous owner told me that the transom is soft, so that will be one of the main projects. I'm planning to use SeaCast to repair the transom. Not sure but I think the hull construction useds fibreglass and foam Web-cor stringers - anyone out there have any info on that?

The boat comes with a 302 Ford V8 engine that has been bored out 0.003. It has an an RB Cam and adjustable lifters but it has been sitting for 2 years - the PO says it will run great, but I won`t be surprized if it doesn`t need some work as well.

The outleg is a Mercruiser that was produced the year before the Alpha leg was introduced (not sure what year that was - can anyone help me out?).

The other big project involves the forward deck. Right now there isn't much room over the forward bunk, so I'm considering raising the forward deck a bit to make it a little less claustrophobic.

In general the interior of this boat is in pretty good shape so that's a plus.

Looking for information. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
