The Danforth anchor is held by a pivoting bow roller. The anchor chain enters the cuddy thru a deck pipe. This deck pipe must be in the "open" position in order for the anchor to be retreived. Normally I open this prior to launch. The rubber coated chain is a little stiff and sometimes takes a little coaxing from wake to drop. Hopefully this will free up with time.

The chain enters in from the deck pipe and rides on this home made pulley. (It is a piece of PVC pipe rolling on a wood dowel with a bolt through the center). The bracket is attached to the bow eye. A bow roller would have worked equally as well.

I can now retract the anchor from the helm. I have a cleat secured to the floor which I can quickly tie off the anchor line. I usually coil the line once I am safely underway. I have found the anchor line fairly easy to pull from this position.
