What the hell did I get myself into !

The fiberglass comes out easy but that wood is hard job . Lots of hand labor involved . The transom did not feel that bad until I open her up and the wood was very wet and rotted. It seems the cap was the source of the leak . This transom was made in 4 sections because of the curve .

I left the good wood on the sides but treated it to be safe . I replaced the wood up to the scuppers since they had rot around them and thats where the section ended . The transom was double 3/4 ply in the middle but only one layer on the sides .

After a lot of scraping and getting it smooth as I could . There seems to be a lot of factory imperfection in the surface so I put a layer of 1708 biaxial with matt to give me a good surface to grab to when I installed my new wood . It seems to give the transom a lot of stiffness even without the wood installed .

I added biaxal to bond the outside skin to the side wood and would give me a good smooth surface to bond to . I used a nice cream epoxy mixture to help fill in the gouges

The center transom was built in two sections . the bottom of it was cut to allow for the angle . I made it just like the one I took out, it was also made in two sections with ears on the top to fit into the single layer of plywood on the sides . Double 3/4 marine ply with epoxy fiberglass mat between and screwed together . all wood was epoxy primed first and a layer of mat between the ply

Installed new transom and outside stringers at the same time to get good bond . They were bonded to the sides of the transom plywood like when I removed the factory ones . I replaced them with 3/4 plywood and made a good wood bond to the transom with thickened epoxy and fiber mix . I clamped and let cure over night .

I got a nice tight fit to my outside skin , lots of epoxy came from existing holes . lots of clean up

I made the cap solid and overlapped it with biaxial glass to the outside skin . No plastic trim to leak this time

The center supports and stringer glassed with 3 layers of 1708 biaxial . The transom was glassed with 3 layers of biaxial with mat also . I took the transom glass past the side curves so all sections were bonded together with the hull . Then painted with white epoxy paint . Installed my bilge pumps and fishwell pumps . Installed scupper hoses and ready to close her up

Installed the cap using 3/4 primed plywood and screwed with 1 1/4 ss screws . I used two layers of epoxy roven mat on the wood to get a nice bond to the uneven parts in the factory layup

only painted the back repaired area for now with interlux perfections paint but will paint the balance over this winter . Now I am ready to install back doors ,outboard and controls . I am mounting a rebuilt clean 2000 johnson 175, can't wait to see how it runs !

Splash well area came out clean , I was thinking I have a bad seam but it came out good .

Got the engine on and working on the controls. should be ready this week .

Well started her up today and sounded great ! just need some fish in the boat, be like old times .As you can see I only painted the back of the boat but plan to finish after I get it broken in . I pinstriped it off where it changes color so it does'nt look half bad for now .
