1st I needed to decide which one to rebuild. Decide on the right on a 74? Westwind instead of the 68? Crestliner. Reason being it has a better trailer, heavier glass job, larger cabin and the transom is in better condition. Any ?'s/comments e-mail tekitracker at yahoo dot com

A little about the boats, the westwind (tarped) I picked up from a drive by, watched it all summer long and finally called the owner. He picked it up for the outdrive (now missing) and just wanted to get rid of it. Had a 2.0 ltr OMC elect shift.

Engine had good compression and the bearings seemed good so I decided not to do a total rebuild just a cosmetic dress up

Just have to make some gaskets (anyone know where you can get these from pls e-mail me) and finish the generator (yes I have plans in keeping the generator although I have a marine alternator from the other engine for back up.

Time to start on the Boat, first needed to get the OMC out of the Westwind

9 ft ceilings make for a tight fit. Boat anchor (pun) is now out. Just american over-engineering.

Maybe I should have picked the Crestliner

The floors were rotten and the foam was saturated, once I removed all this, I thought that the fiberglass started flexing and I made the wrong choice of boats to work on. Once I got down and checked things out, I figured out that removing 1200 pounds of saturated foam relaxed the boat to the point that the saddles on the trailer were to low Plans continue. Pics to follow

With a break in the weather have decided to get back to work on this project. I need to rebuild the transom to accept the Volvo outdrive. Need to remove one layer of 3/4" plywood.

Still below freezing outside, this made the removal easier. The inside layer of plywood was watersoaked and rotted so with it being frozen it came off pretty easy.

After much trimming and cussing template done. Now to lay up the new transome.

|
New transome before detailed cut from the template. I wanted to make the transome as strong as possible so its made up of 2 sheets 3/8th and one sheet of 1/4 plywood with resined glass inbetween.
