 Flying on jacks
|
The car is jacked up and supported. The rear stands are placed to allow for the removal of the powertrain, but this creates an imbalance. If one was to lean on the rear, the front would lift off the stands, so care was used. Here, the rear wheels are removed, brake calipers and parking brake cables disconnected.

Everything that can be disconnected is at this time. Fuel lines, water hoses, wire harness, cables, etc. must be removed like in any engine change.

 Crain hooked up

The engine crane is hooked up, and all bolts mounting the subframe and suspension are removed. The crane is adjusted out to it's max. extension, and the chain is long enough for the arm to clear the fender when the engine is lowered. Think this one out prior to actually lowering the engine to avoid a problem.

The entire powertrained is lowered onto a dolly. Care must be taken to ensure everything is disconnected and out of the way when lowering this. If everything is out of the way, it will lower very easy. The suspension a-arms and exhaust do not need to be removed to perform this.
