89 DIXIE Ski boat resto.
Submitted By: bluerunner

Description: This boat was bought new in 1989 by my grandfather. It was used for a few years in salt and fresh water. The boat quit the last time it was out on the water and has sat for about 5 years, it sat uncovered for the last 2 years. The boat has about 100 hours on it.
Tools / Materials: Go to the Boating Store

original front of motor
I removed the stator, guted it out and cleaned it.

The bracket is made from 1/2" and 3/8" steel plate. I used 1/2" longer (to compensate for the steel plate) grade 8 bolts to mount the bracket to the motor.
alternator bracket complete

alternator mounted - single wire marine 100 amp.
Here you can see the alternator all mounted up. After I mounted it, I used string to measure for my belt, then I took the string to an auto-parts store to find the belt I needed. I lucked out and got it perfect on the first try. You can also see I modified the original coil mounting bracket and moved it. The coil is mounted using on of the power steering mounting bolts.

Here you can see the alternator wired up. All you need to do is bypass the voltage regulator, and splice in the one wire from the alternator to the 2 positive wires that were on the voltage regulator. I used 10ga. wire. The only thing I have left is to secure and wrap the wires.

Its working great, Im getting between 12-14 volts between 900-2500RPM.
