1959 Amumacraft FDR
Submitted By: Vilulf
Date Created: 06-14-2006
Description: Restoration of a 1959 Alumacraft Model FDR and 1959 Mercury Mark 35A outboard. If you can help with parts for the boat and or motor, please email me at ironcounty@sbcglobal.net There were only 702 of the Model FDR built between 1959 and 1960.
My serial number is 257
Since ALumacraft starts serial number runs at "100" this is the 157th FDR built.
It weighs less than 300 pounds
Tools / Materials: Go to the Boating Store

Hmmmm I'm thinking Walnut would look real nice to replace that transum board :-)

Wonder if anyone has a lower unit for that 1959 Mercury Mark 35A?

and so it begins
I decided to try 'DOT 3 Brake Fluid" to loosen the paint for stripping.... Yes, I said Brake Fluid :-) it's working beautifully, and is MUCH cheaper than commercial paint strippers. I wouldn;t try this on a wooden or fingerglass boat though.
It has no ill effect on the aluminum.
You just have to be patient. Brush the brake fluid on after sunset and when you get up in the morning VOILA!!! seriously wrinkled paint that's ready to be literally swept off the boat.

Wide Open Throttle.... MAN this boat flies \m/

She jumps up on plane immediately, and as you can see, at wide open throttle, she doesn't need a lot of water :-)
