1969 Larson Shark w/1966 Merc 1100SS
Submitted By: CaptnKirk
Date Created: 06-05-2006
Description: This 16' Larson belonged to my grandfather, before he passed he sold it to me. I've had it for about 3 years and this is the year that she gets a new floor. There are a couple soft spots, saturated foam and worn covering. The hull is in great shape and the Merc 1100 runs like a champ! Not bad for a classic!

I changed over the pictures so now they have better quality and detail!

Drivers Seat
This is the drivers seat with a homemade fix. Because the floor is rotten, the screws that held the pedestal in the floor came out. I had to come up with something because the spring walleye season was around the corner so I used a piece of 3/4" plywood for the base and screwed it to the floor.

This is the co-pilot seat where the floor still seems to be holding. Although there is a soft spot a little forward and to the right.

Aft-Starboard Corner
The aft starboard corner is still solid, but I think that after I peel the floor covering off I'll know more.

Ok, drivers seat out, floor covering off. The fun begins...

Aft-Port
This is the soft spot before I pulled up the covering.

This is the soft spot that initiated the floor replacement after I pulled up the covering.

Through The Glass
Yikes! Tore through the glass and found what I expected...rotten wood.

As I expected, saturated foam. Notice the water at the bottom edge of where I pulled out a chunk of foam. The hull looks excellent!
Saturated Foam

Stringers
Here are the stringers. What's confusing is that the only wood is laid on top of foam and the floor was attached to it. It seems that the fiberglass is whats making up the stringers and the foam is the support. If you look at the far left you can see my screwdriver stuck in the foam where that board was. You can also see where it was placed where the foam looks like it takes a 1" step down. I talked to a tech at Larson and he told me that there should be a board on the inside of the foam against the glass...there isnt though.
