Here I will show how I handled the motor, got the boat off the trailer and turned it over to work on the bottom.

Motor Stand (click to enlarge)
I had to have a stand to hold the motor when working on the boat. Here is the stand I built. It is built from 2X4's glued and screwed together. The screws are 3" deck screws and the glue is liquid nails.

The base is 30" wide by 33" deep and the stand is 38" from the ground to the top. The wings sticking out from the face are handles to lift the loaded stand out of cracks and potholes in my asphalt driveway. Note that the verticals are put into compression rather than shear for maximum strength.
