Half cabin full re-build
Submitted By: Frontier!
Date Created: 09-02-2005
Description: I bought this for $50 originally. Since March I have been slowly re-building it.
Tools / Materials: Go to the Boating Store

Hull without cabin on top
This is how she looked from the side when I first got her home and sat her on some tyres.

As you can see, the transom was a mess.
A VERY broken and busted transom

And her guts had been totally ripped out as well.

So I started with pulling her sides back in place at the back so that the transom cracks all re-aligned.
1st things 1st, a frame to pull transom together

New stringers and spacers
Obviously I needed to re-do all the stringers and get the new floor height right.

The new transom is now in after alot of time on shaping!

What I did here was install two pieces of 15mm marine ply rather than a single 30mm. This gives a stronger transom in the end.

Additionally, you might be able to see through the glass layer that I also drilled hunderds of 5mm holes through the ply pieces.

This meant that rather than having the glass go across the ply, it goes through the ply and across. This gives a much stronger transom.
Don't ask how long this took!

Finished Transom
Both 15mm pieces in. Glass then ply then glass then ply and then glass. Next is trimming sanding and priming.

Transom is now ready for sanding. You can see the amount of previous holes and cracks that were there!

Bulkheads, fuel tank box as well.
Here you can see that I have also installed new bulkheads and a fuel tank box to suit the 120liter aluminium fuel tank.

Here I've sprayed the first coat of primer and spot marked additional areas for sanding.

The transom and well are now completed

This shot shows the boats shape and how it "curves" in at the back.

The hull has now had a few coats, cabin is on and it's really starting to come together

Closer view of hull. I've antifouled the bottom as well.

Still a few things to be done here. This shot is just prior to the new windscreen being fitted.
