 The boat
|
This is almost as it was when I started, only things changed are the rims, a new kicker bracket, and a 50hp Merc mounted. The windshield needs some work still.

 Smoke

Burning off all that extra gas in the carb. Unfortunately this is the last picture of that brown stripe 50hp running. A few seconds later a crankshaft bearing cracked and spilled it's rollers into #3 cylinder.

Anchored at my cabin. I put one of my 9.8's on there as a kicker.

 It's Quick!
|
I'll put a speedometer in later but for now I'll just say it's quick. That 50 I rebuilt is a beast. I might go to a 16 pitch prop though, it's pretty high RPM at WOT with this 13P.

 ...Until the Bilge pump quit

Me being bitter. It took and hour with the air compressor and needle-nose pliers to unclog it when I got home.

 Stripped 1972 Merc 500
|
Stripped it to have a look at the #3 piston damage.

|
|
The first 50HP Merc I put on there ran for 15 minutes before this happened to #3 piston

Another 7.5 for the "runs" pile.

Running perfectly. Land Rover engine in the background, one day I'll share that project too.

This is the Springbok 14' that's about to take up permanent residence at my summer cabin. I'm going to put a Merc 50hp on it if the transom can take it.

This engine's going on the boat as soon as I finish rebuilding it. It's a 1968 Mercury 650 65hp.

 Tubing behind it
|
I let my dad drive and did some tubing behind it. I got pretty airborne a few times.
