The propulsion had to cope with sand,weeds,mud and shingle and sudden beaching because the water could be muddy and it was not possible to see what was below.Light weight and low fuel consumption was a must.Good speed in very shallow water meant no pushing of the boat to find channels before the tide dropped to low.
